Mid Year School on Analysis, Geometry, and Applications (MYSAGA)

Mid Year School on Analysis, Geometry, and Applications (MYSAGA)

The Mid Year School on Analysis, Geometry and Applications was held by Analysis and Geometry Research Group, Faculty of Mathematics and Natural Sciences on August 13-17, 2018 at Institut Teknologi Bandung. The lectures was delivered by three experts, Prof. Giuseppe Di Fazio (University of Catania, Italy), Prof. Yoshihiro Sawano (Tokyo Metropolitan University, Japan) and Dr. Denny Ivanal Hakim (Bandung Institute of Technology, Indonesia). The focus of MYSAGA 2018 were Morrey Spaces and Related Topic. The school was held for master and doctoral students in mathematics, but newly graduated mathematics doctors are also welcome. The school was attended by 34 participants who came from Italy, Japan, India, Germany and several cities of Indonesia.

In his 5 lectures, Professor Sawano discussed the theory of Morrey spaces and generalized Morrey spaces, some examples of generalized Morrey spaces, and several topics related to generalized Orlicz-Morrey spaces. He also gave a survey on several results about the boundedness of maximal operators, fractional maximal operators, fractional integral operators, and singular integral operators in generalized Morrey spaces. The main topic of Professor Di Fazio’s lecture is the regularity of solution of elliptic partial differential equation. He discussed the notion of weak solution and very weak solution, a representation formula by Green function, the role of Stummel-Kato class and Morrey spaces in PDE and also sufficient and necessary conditions for regularity. Dr. Hakim’s lectures consists of two parts. In the first three lecturs, he discussed the interpolation of linear operators in Lebesgue spaces and Morrey spaces and also the complex interpolation method. The description of complex interpolation of Morrey spaces and their subspaces was given in the last two lectures. Besides the lectures, there were 12 contributed talks by participants. These talks were divided into three sessions. The topic of the first session was on integral operators, such as fractional integral operators, Bessel-Riesz potentials, and singular integrals. In the second session, participants gave some talks about PDE and related topics. Finally, in the last session, the presenter discussed several topics on function spaces, such as inclusions of weighted Orlicz spaces, embedding between Morrey spaces and Stummel classes, mixed Morrey spaces, and Holder’s inequality in weak Morrey spaces.

Besides academic activities, during MYSAGA there were also campus tour, city tour, cultural night, and a trip to Waduk Jatiluhur.
